Frontpage 2002 on 64 bit Windows 7

I use Frontpage 2002 (ver. 10) on 32 bit XP operating system. I am moving to
64 bit Windows 7. Will Frontpage work? What problems will I encounter? Are
there uupgrades needed or should I move to more modern version of Frontpage?

Some users have no problems with FrontPage on Windows 7
(any version), others find that the program crashes with
an "Out of Memory" error when saving or publishing.

If you get the error, the solution is to install XPmode
(you need Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate edition,
Home does not support XPmode.) and install FrontPage
in the XP virtual machine.

Otherwise, upgrade to Expression Web - there is a trial at
http://www.microsoft.com/expression

It's not exactly what you want to know but Frontpage 2003 works OK on
both 32 and 64 bit W7.

That's just not true. Try doing a SaveAs.

I've just tried it on 32 bit W7 and it worked. I'll try it on 64 bit
W7 when I get on the machine.

Man, it definitely doesn't here. I'm running x64, though. Only thing
I could do, to save my sanity, was to install it in an XP VM.

It occurs to me, maybe we need to define "worked"? You don't get those
funky "Out of Memory" errors? I seemed to get one for each file in the
target folder, as I recall. Here's the exact text:

"An unexpected error occurred: Not enough memory available to
complete the operation. Close other programs to make more memory
avialable, then try again."

Followed by an "Unable to save the file."

Of course, I have about 10GB free. <smirk>

I wonder if that's the problem? I only use it against FPSE-enabled
webs on Windows Server 2003 and XP.

Actually, there is an easy fix for this "Out of Memory" error that
just discovered

1) Right click on the Frontpage 2002 icon and go to Properties
2) When the window pops up, click on the Compatibility tab. (phot
attached here
3) Checkmark the box that says "Run this program i
compatibility mode for:" and then choose Windows XP o
whatever Windows version worked for you before
4) Click Apply

I did this and haven't had any problems since. Not sure why Microsoft i
ignoring this super easy fix other than to hit you up for upgrades. Hope i
works for you.
