FrontPage 2002 Publishing Issue

Canu

Hi,

We have been using FrontPage 2002 to publish our web site for the past 2
years without any problems until late last week.

We receive the following error message:

Server error: An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors
- if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details.

The sequence of events that leads to this are as follows:

- Publish button clicked
- Dialog box comes up with the user name and password
- OK button clicked
- Listing pages on web on computer
- Listing pages on web on server
- Dialog box comes up asking if I want to overwrite a file. It states that
the page on the server has been modified on a particular date and time by a
particular user.
I click Yes To All.
- Dialog box comes listing pages, then finishes with Processing Web Updates
but the process does not complete
- A final dialog box comes up stating
Server error: An error occurred accessing your FrontPage web files. Authors
- if authoring against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this
server's site. WebMasters - please see the server's system log for more
details.
- I click the Cancel button the Web Updates dialog box because no further
processing takes place
- I click the OK button on the Server Error Dialog Box
- Nothing on the server is updated

I have repaired my installation to ensure that there isn't a problem and I
haven't had any problem publishing any other web site, even those on the same
server as this particular web site.

Anyone come across anything like this before?

All help will be gratefully received.....

Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm
and download a copy of FP Cleaner.
Download links are on the bottom of the page.
Run the two functions that:
Clear the FrontPage Temporary files.
Clear the Cache (*.web) files

Reopen your web and try to publish.

Kathleen,
Thank you for your post.
To answer your question, yes I have been in touch with the technical support
area of hosting company and they have been unable to replicate the error and
suggested that I get in touch with Microsoft to investigate further......

Any further input would be great.

Thanks,

Steve,

Thanks for the link.

Before I install this program though, would you mind telling me a bit about
it and how it may help in this case?

This sort of sounds like what happens to me when I run out of web space.
Are you possibly up to your maximum limit of web space use? Try temporarily
deleting a couple of big files, usually pictures/jpg's (make sure you save
them somewhere else), and try to upload your pages again.

Hi,

We have plenty of server space to spare. I don't think that space is an
issue as I'm able to publish on other web sites that are on the same server,
but thanks for the suggestion anyway.

The Server's disc may have lots of free space, but does the offending
web site have a space limit that you are very close to? This will not
affect other sites on the server.
