FrontPage 2003 Extensions - Need to Reinstall on Linux Servers

Hi,

I just got a message from a Level 3 tech specialist for my hosting
company. He said I should reinstall FrontPage Extensions every time I
publish. He said that this was because Microsoft doesn't make it a point for
FP to work well on Linux servers, which is what my hosting company has. Does
this sound true? I've been having problems getting visitors to my
confirmation page after they fill out a feedback form. Maybe this is the
answer? Thanks for the help!

I've never heard of such a thing. You should not have to re-install them
unless they become corrupt. Time to look for a new web host

I'll tell you what my experience is with FP extensions and many various
hosting companies... they never bother to tell you that when you are trying
to reinstall FP on a LINUX server you have to first Delete all folders
starting with "_" an underscore. Also delete files starting with underscore
and ".htaccess" file. You should back up all your files first with ftp or ssh.

If you don't, FP Never Installs correctly unless you do that first. (Then
again, with certain hosting companies, they dont work right anyway.)

I can honestly say that all of my sites are hosted on Linux servers with FrontPage
extensions,
and I have never seen that behavior.

The one or two times that I have had problems with the extensions, all I ever did was
repair them using the web masters CPanel, and all functionality was immediately restored.

Nothing was ever deleted from any web.

It might also interest you to know that the FrontPage extensions for Linux and other
servers besides MSFT servers were written by a company named Ready to Run Software.
www.rtr.com under contract from MSFT.

The main issue with the FPSEs on non MSFT servers is and always has been, that a lot of
"Hosting Companies" don't know how to install and properly maintain them.
