Frontpage and MACs

I have designed and published a website using Frontpage 2003.
Works fine on PCs but the links don't work on MACs.
What am I doing wrong?

Can you post a URL? It could be something very simple in the HTML that could
be causing it.

Your site uses VML, which is only recognized in IE browsers. Your links
also don't work in FireFox browsers on a Windows PC.

It's all those Textboxes you're using. Textboxes, Wordart, and most
everything from the Draw toolbar in FP are IE proprietary - they usually
don't work in other browsers or may be downgraded to low level gifs in some.
Don't use them!

The styles, word art, VML and other textboxes are causing your problem. The
MAC doesn't know how to interpret them. You can use regular tables and
cells and graphics (gifs/jpgs) to achieve the same look and feel and it will
be compatible with other browsers

I don't even know what VML means - how is one supposed to know what one can
use in Frontpage without causing problems ?

VML= Vector Markup Language.

One needs to study about cross browser compatibility, and even use different
browsers for testing.

There is a wealth of information available on the internet. www.google.com
is a good place to start.

for noobies, or for designers with limited audiences.

The tools are typically disabled by default. In the defualt installations of
FrontPage I've run into, the compatibility settings for FrontPage are set to
Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. This would preclude the drawing
tools from being shown. When making a product like FP, MS still had to offer
the widest range of tools for the widest range of browsers since developers
can easily be annoyed by a tool that presumes they don't want to use a
certain features because it's not compatible (like the old blinking text
that only worked in Netscape Navigator). At some point in time the page
compatibility options must have gotten changed to get some feature to work
and was forgotten about. That happens all too often and is an easy mistake.
Page compatibility can be found under Tools | Page Options

Thanks Mark.

I set up browser compatibilty for Explorer and Netscape. But this didn't
seem to do much to help.

I shall try designing this again without using the drawing tools as advised.

You guys have all been wonderful.
