FrontPage Conflick With Symantec

V

VBKS

Hello,

How do you get FrontPage to work beside/with Symantec?

Problem: I installed FrontPage 2003, and Symantec (seems) to be blocking
FrontPage from communicating with the web. I have tried disabling Symantec,
but it was to no avail, as I still could not upload from FrontPage. My host
is Yahoo.com and I am using Windows Media Edition, 2003

How do I address this problem?

Thank you for your volunteerism

Put the frontpage executable file in the "allowed web applications"
(exceptions) list in Norton Personal Firewall.

Doesn't it alert you saying "Frontpage is trying to access the internet.
Allow/Deny" ? You should be able to click "Allow" and then it won't give
you any further trouble.

At least..... this is the way ZoneAlarm works.

What happens if you un-install Norton?

Disabling will not work, as it is still loading system startup.

Hi Thomas,

I thought about that. But then I simply disable it after start up. So for
now, I had been using FTP. That is until. . .

.. . . If all of this was not already a headache, I just posted this
question, moments ago.

Hello,

I am having a real strange problem with FrontPage 2003.

My homepage, (index page) www.VirginiasBestKeptSecret.com, uses a top
border, side border, and a bottom border which cascades across most of the
website

However, the (bottom border) no longer will publish correctly (site wide),
this applies even when I only use the off line review option, as well.

If all of this was not strange enough, when I try and publish a given page,
all hell lets loose, as the body of the webpage will now be mirrored where
the bottom border use to be, but in a messed up fashion.

Example Here ->
http://www.virginiasbestkeptsecret.com/Smith_Mountain_Lake_Real_Estate_HOT_Leads_page01.html

Do you have any idea what gives? I used Yahoo.com's snapshot backup, to
restore the rest of the website.

Good luck figuring this one out.

The website www.VirginiasBestKeptSecret.com was originally built from
FrontPage 98, using Windows 98 Second Edition, and now I imported the
website to FrontPage 2003, hoping to fix the problem automatically, when I
bought a brand new HP 3.0 Hz computer, back in 2004.

I am now running, Windows Home Edition 2003 .

Whomever can address and fix this problem, will be my mentor for years to
come.

Thanks in advance.

Disabling Norton after Windows has started up or under Windows Startup options, doesn't disable it
from running in the background under DOS when the system boots, which is why I suggested that you
un-install it to test.

I see. Okay, thank you very much. I will try that. But I should not have to
let my fire wall down to upload my website, which will leave my computer
venerable for a few hours, during this process.

Then you need to contact Norton.

I have never run a firewall until I installed SP2, and now use the Windows Firewall, I rely on the
fact that I have 2 routers, one for my internal network and one for connecting to the internet which
only has few ports open for two-way traffic.

True, but since it installed and hasn't created any problem, I let it run.

Ahh, but it's redundant, and robs cycles from your CPU. In other words, you
experience no benefit *and* take a performance hit getting it!

Would your computer really be venerable?
ven·er·a·ble (vnr--bl)
adj.
1. Commanding respect by virtue of age, dignity, character, or
position.
2. Worthy of reverence, especially by religious or historical
association: venerable relics.
3. Venerable Abbr. Ven. or V.
a. Roman Catholic Church Used as a form of address for a person who
has reached the first stage of canonization.
b. Used as a form of address for an archdeacon in the Anglican Church
or the Episcopal Church.

Maybe it would be nice to know one's computer is worthy of reverence
