FrontPage crashes when adding hyperlink

D

David Rowell

I'm using FP 2003 on a Vista machine and believe both the OS and FP have all
latest updates.

Often (but not always) when I go to insert a hyperlink from my own website
on another FrontPage page in the site, the program will crash.

I highlight some text, click on the Insert Hyperlink button, and then click
on one of the folders in my website as I navigate to the page I wish to
create the hyperlink to, and the program freezes/crashes.

The website is being held on a remote server, not on this local workstation.

Does anyone have any ideas? Not being able to link from page to page in my
site is, of course, a bit of a challenge and limitation. :)

Tks

David.

It is a known bug that is being worked on. The workaround is to add
links in Code View.

For most users, the crash occurs *every* time.

Unfortunately a known Bug w/ Vista
- MS still does not have a fix for it

fixit

You can do two things to fix the problem do this to your registry
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, add FrontPage to the list of Internet Explorer
compatible programs. To do this, follow these steps:

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.1. Click Start,
click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Application
Compatibility
3. Right-click Application Compatibility, click New, and then click DWORD
Value.
4. Type Frontpg.exe, and then click OK to name the DWORD value.
5. Double-click Frontpg.exe.
6. In the Value data box, type 1, click OK, and then quit Registry Editor.

You should also go to http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/index.htm and download
the FPcleaner and run that program. YOUR PROBLEMS WILL BE FIXED.

For those of you that were hopeful that "fixit" had a real solution, don't
bother. This fix doesn't work.
