FrontPage Extensions/IIS/Apache

B

Bruce A. Julseth

When I run a Front Page developed page on either my IIS server or on my
Apache server, the page loads
okay. But when I click the "Submit" Button, I get the following error
message:

FrontPage Run-Time Component Page
You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a
web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you
publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server
Extensions
installed.

Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page.

Now, I thought I had the Front Page Extensions installed. So, my questions
are:

1) How do I check to see if the FrontPage Extensions are installed on these
servers?

2) And, if not, where do I find them to install them, or do I let these
servers
know they are installed.

I'm new at the stuff, so if my questions don't make sense, help with better
questions.

Thanks....

Are you trying to send forms to email? If so, see:
How to Configure the FP extensions for email:
http://www.spiderwebwoman.com/tutorials/email_stuff.htm

When you say IIS/Apache? FP server extensions are *not* support on Apache
for Windows.

No, I am not trying to submit a form to email. I am submitting to an
"OnClick" JavaScript function.

What is the news groups address for the FP Extensions news group?

Thank you..

That error message comes from _derived/nortbots.htm

nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to
a URL of the form http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

I need some help here because I'm new to this problem.

Ref: 1) I don't know what the statement "You are testing on a disc-based
website, including a FrontPage
disc-based web that is being browsed through a web-server." My web address
is:

http:/localhost/index.htm (for IIS)
or
http:/localhost:8080/index.htm (for Apache)

Am I "testing on a disc-base website."

Ref: 2) "You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running"

I thought I had the server extensions installed. Do I have to install them
twice, once for IIS and once for Apache? If so, which of my CD's (or is
there web site) I find the extensions? Is there some way I can verify is
there are, or are not, installed.

Ref 3): I'm testing on my local machine and not doing any FTPing.

Ref 4): I'm using FP 2002.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate if I can get some further assistance.

Normally, only one of the the four options applies.
Ref: 1) I don't know what the statement "You are testing on a

or
http:/localhost:8080/index.htm (for Apache)

FYI: Extensions are installed on a server, not on a website.
You cannot install FPextensions on Apache running on Windows - do not
bother with Apache on Windows when testing FP components, they will
never work. (Apache on Unix is a different matter)

When using FrontPage, do you open the web as a file path such as
C:\inetpub\wwwroot ? If so, it is a disc based web. When using a
server, the web must be opened using a http:// address, in your case
http://localhost/

If this is the case, try fixing the extensions:
If FP2000 extensions:
Control Panel->Administration Tools->Server Extensions Administrator
Open the Tree to /LM/W3SVC/1: right click and choose All TAsks->Check
Server Extensions

If FP2002 extensions:
Control Panel->Administration Tools->Microsoft Sharepoint
Administration
Click Administration for the Default Web Site (this page not
appear if you only have one web site)
Click Go to site administration for [machine-name]
Under Server Health, click Check Server Health
Check all rthe Repair boxes and click OK.

The above may convert the extensions from disc based to server based.
Ref: 2) "You are testing on a website that does not have server
extensions installed or running"

You cannot install extensions on Apache running on Windows.
To check the installation, follow the steps in 1) above. If the items
are not in the Admin.Tools menu, the extensions are not installed.
When installing IIS FP2000 extensions are an option on WinXP PRO and
Win 2000, Windows 2003 will give the option of FP2002 extensions.
Ref 3): I'm testing on my local machine and not doing any FTPing.

You may be editing a disc based web, and viewing it using a web
server.
