Unless someone else has a solution, it sound like your only option is to reformat your HD and
re-install everything.

Corrupt file path in the registry will cause it. Should pop a warning
screen though.

How can it freeze when attempting to un-install - that makes no sense to me
what-so-ever.

Come to think of it, they could also be trying to install / uninstall when
logged on as a user instead of administrator or power user.!!

Corn flakes !!!! Okaaaaay

The drawing tablet is a good one though.

Just on FP though?
Maybe run a reg cleaner then?

The only times in 20+ years I've had something like this happening it was
one of 3 things:

1- Cornflakes in keyboard.
2- Loose keyboard connection
3- Drawing Tablet (RF) pen resting & moving on drawing tablet buried under
stack of paper :) --- THIS ONE DROVE ME NUTS FOR DAYS !!

Try the remove function again under Add/Remove in the Control Panel, but select uninstall, not
repair or re-install.

The dreaded ME is my operating system. to recap: fp 2002 freezes when I try and open t, the
unnstall program goes as far as asking me if I want to detect and repair it--then it freezes. we
have been working with Storefront for the past 2 weeks, ading a catalog system to our online shop.
Storefront says no way is this related to them. I did try to open ot in explorerer and the bad news
is that a dll (dil) file is missing. Im not sure how to proceed next--as we are in the middle of a
massive update.

I would suggest trying to uninstall the StoreFront FP Interface (add-in) components, if SF still has
them, and see it that solves the problem.

Was the Storefront something you had to load on your machine? Maybe it overwrote a dll ???

I wish I we could "reply all"-

This is so perplexing. FP won't uninstall- it attempts, runs for a quick second, doesn't really unistall but claims it has, then a memory message comes up. The memory is fine, there's tons available, somehow my computer doesn't think so, though.

I removed the SF software (it had run previously with no problems).

We've sometimes had Explorer crash due to a "kernal 32" error. Perhaps FP was open in the background, minding its own business, when Explorer crashed w/a kernal 32 error, and somehow got - messed up? Is that possible? I just can't get it off/unistalled to reinstall it, it's BIZARRE.

It won't remove. It won't repair. It won't open. It will sometimes point out that FP did not load correctly last time, do I want to start in "Safe mode." Whether I pick yes or no, it goes back to the freeze. I've restarted, I've rebooted between little steps- nothing is getting rid of it. It won't install correctly over it. It just won't do anything but hang there.

When it opens, it tries to load, shows a messed up screen with the desktop showing through it- and just stays there. ? Is there any "safe" way that anyone here can recommend to manually remove the files? I just hesitate to start scraping around in program files... ? Really wierd. I need to get on with my web... aaarrrgh. Thanks for all the tips.

Have you tried rebooting your machine, and NOT starting FP, then attempt to install FP in another
folder?

It might be best at this point to contact MS Support by phone or reformat and start over.

Thanks to all for your help- nothing worked, so we're going to make some backups & reformat. I even bought a PC doc thing to fix registry errors. Frontpage is the only thing on this machine not working- what a hassle. Anyway-what did Einstein say- the definition of insanity is to keep trying the same thing over and over again with no result. :) Reformat time.
