Frontpage issues

Mitch

Hello all,

I hope you can help me with some issues I have been experiencing. First of
all the environment, Windows 2000 server sp3, in a domain.

1. Unable to set page counters. It starts at 0 and increments normally.
The proper page counter appears in the index.htm.cnt file but not the
default.htm.cnt file. If I manually set the counter in the default.htm.cnt
file everything works fine. The web site admin account and internet user
account has modify permissions.

2. Occasional issues with publishing any web site from a user workstation
(over the internet). Either the attempt fails because it cannot find the
extensions, or user account id or password is incorrect. I have even
specified the account with the domain account and password but it still
bounces back. However, if I publish from my laptop I have no problems. The
user is using the latest Frontpage and I am using Frontpage 2002.

#1 If you manually set the count in the .cnt file does it continue to update correctly? If so, that
is the normal method for change the count.

#2 Compare laptop IE / Network settings with workstation(s).

1. Yes it will continue properly after manually editing the file. However,
Frontpage has the ability to set the initial amount which doesn't seem to
work...this results in my clients having to publish and tell me what to set
the counter at.

2. I don't think that the network settings will have much involvement here.
I didn't mention in the earlier post that this person has been able to
publish for the last year with this problem only popping up from time to
time (once per month perhaps?)...infrequent anyway. At the same time, she
doesn't have a problem publishing to her ISP.

Most users have always had to open the live site and modify the .cnt file. Just provide your clients
with instructions for making the change. The file should not change when client publishes updates.

Hmmm...ok. Any thoughts on the publishing problem? Is there a detailed
document on what happens during the publishing process?

Also, is there a way to force the authentication domain? I have tried basic
authentication with specifying a domain but it doesn't seem to be working
for me.

Sorry, don't have any additional thoughts on the publishing issue, hopefully someone else will.

Just tell them to open the live site and change the count there.
Changing it and publishing doesn't work for their local index.htm page.
