Hello all:
Does anyone have any examples of Photo Galleries done with the FrontPage
Photo Gallery component? I am attempting my first one and would like to see
some examples of what's possible.

Thanks,

Hi-
I've had good results with mine, if you want to check
it out. It's http://www.frankbright.com/Gallery.htm

At first (back when I was with Frontpage 2002), I had
some problems with thumbnails vs. the larger versions not
being clear and the resolutions getting altered somehow
in the resizings. But then it was thru this newsgroup
that someone shared a good solution. I saved it in
Notepad, so one never knows when it may come in handy.
Good Luck !! Thanks,...Brightbelt

Hi:
I am having the same problem - the thumbnails are very fuzzy. What was the
solution?

Hi- Here's the solution I copied below. Disclaimer here:
it's been a while since I implemented it, but it did work
like a charm. The guy (HTH,...whoever he is...) who gave
it to me even said he won some prize for figuring it out.
Good Luck !!

Find the folder that the thumbnails are kept in.
it's photo followed by a number. open that folder
in folders view, delete everything but the pages
(realx, real?.htm). close the web and reopen it.
then open your gallery by selecting it and choosing
gallery properties. it'll regenerate all the thumbnails
for you.
When you publish make sure you have all pages selected
to overwrite the stuff on the server.

Hi again-
I forgot to put my 'Sender's Name' at the top of the
last post where I posted the solution for
you. 'Brightbelt' here, aiming for good manners, even on
the internet. Good Luck ! Brightbelt

Brightbelt:
Thank you for your help. You did a very nice job on your site.

My images are actually .jpgs of scanned documents - so I think my thumbnails
will come out fuzzy no matter what I do. I also figured out that you can
edit the real.htm file - I created the Montage which creates a number of
table rows based on the number of thumbnails - I edited the HTML to remove
the nowrap and put all the thumbnails into one row, and added width="100%"
to the table tag so the table will expand and collapse (and fill in with
thumbnails) as you expand or contract the browser window. Here's the site -
please don't laugh at the design- my customer picked out and used the image
for her printed material and then gave it to me and told me to make it
work -fast - we are redesigning the site this summer):

sonofagun! That was my tip to the (I think defunct) FrontPage "fanzine". I
got a t-shirt for it. ;-)

I found that editing the real.htm would only "take" if you don't open the
photogallery property dialog box and make a change. ;-)

usually the only thing I did to the real.htm was to select the first
thumbnail, hyperlink properties, change it to "_blank" and set it as page
default.
oddly enough it didn't make anything but the core of the gallery open in a
new window. I never did get into the gallery deeper than that but it worked
for the very small car dealer I used it for.
I ran it for them for more than a year and cycled a few hundred cars through
it, so it's not all that bad. ;-)
I usually just did the target change after adding new cars and closing the
gallery page. Kind of like a final action before publishing.
I'm surprised YOURE using the thing at all. figured you'd make some kind of
database app for everything. ;-)

For those of you with PHP support take a look at Gallery as a smart thumbnailer from

Oh Kathleen - I need shades to view it (-;

IMHO the thumbnails should just be text links and the full size should be .pdf
(the jpegs resize in IE 800x600 as unreadable)

| It *is* bad, isn't it? :-(

Just do a search in IE address bar as:

ASP Photo Gallery Script Application

==============================================
Thomas A. Rowe (Microsoft MVP - FrontPage)
WEBMASTER Resources(tm)

FrontPage Resources, WebCircle, MS KB Quick Links, etc.
==============================================

you can batch thumb them with Irfranview.

I do wish someone would design a database gallery that's easy to implement...and customizable...any
takers?? (im not good enough, but i'm full of conceptual something or other :)

BTW... someone was wrestling with Gallery a week or so ago...I cant remember who...I wonder if he
ever got it up and going?

| If I'd gone with a database app, I would have had to create the thumbnails
