FrontPage shows a web that doesn't exist

Nogin scratcher--I deleted a folder on the website that was the folder for a
previously created web.
Now when I start up FrontPage. The folder is still visable as a web. I
can't delete it, convert it to a folder etc.. The message I get is

Server error: There is no web named "/stcharles"

I'll dance at your next wedding if you can figure this out.

Thanks--

is this web server or disk based? i.e. what's the address that's showing
when you have it open in FrontPage (the parent web of the one that's not
supposed to be there)?

sometimes in FrontPage tools/ recalculate hyperlinks does the trick.

sometimes I've got to open IIS and repair the fp extensions on the parent
web.

It's not just you, it's happened to me a few times, unfortunately I'm
usually in such a flurry to get rid of it I can't recall _exactly_ what I
did as a remedy but it's definitely fixable.

I would agree that I probably did something FrontPage didn't expect or
understand to remove the web that wouldn't "fully delete". it's never
happened when I delete a sub web in FrontPage with the parent web open. ;-)

wrote in message The only times it's happened to me was when I used Windows Explorer to
delete the folder rather than deleting it from within FP. ... and I too
don't remember how I fixed it. I 'think' I opened it with FP and let it
create a web out of it then deleted it from FP.

If you did not delete in while in FP or the FP SE admin panel FP is still looking for it
- never delete folders or subwebs from a FP web outside of FP

The info on subwebs is stored in your registry and in the FP meta data (w/i the FP web in the file named "services" in the folder
"_vti_pvt") and in the web cache files
In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
