FTP extremely slow

I am new to Frontpage (and website development/publising) and have just
created a very simple website. I have tried a few times to publish this
website using the FTP functionality in Frontpage 2003.
I manage to connect and view both "Local Web Site" and "Remote Web Site"
files. I selected a local file and clicked on the blue arrow in the middle to
publish an individual file. It took more than 15 minutes to publish this file
over a ADSL 512MB link.
I then deleted the file from the "Remote Website" by loggin directly into
the hosting website. I then used another product (SmartFTP) and it took me
just more than a minute to complete the FTP.
Can someone please tell me if I am missing something as this is very
frustrating?
