This Apache (Unix) server is set to look in a folder for a default file and
to load that file if present. If the file is not found then a folder
structure is presented instead. That default file would be "index.htm". That
is why you can type in a domain name like www.ibiblio.org and the site's
home page (index.htm) is loaded automatically. You could type in the address
of www.ibiblio.org/index.htm if you wanted to, you just don't need to.
www.ibiblio.org is a folder just like the /pub folder below it. If the
server receives a url that doesn't specify a file than it looks for the
default file. What they did here was that the folder /pub has no default
file, no "index.htm" They did that intentionally it would seem so as to
present the folder structure.
