FTP Uploading

I am working in Windows XP Professional, Frontpage 2003. I have tried for two
days to upload to GoDaddy. I set up the network place for the website as:
ftp://[email protected], but try as I might it will not connect
to godaddy. Believing this to be the problem, when I try to set up the Remote
Web Site Properties using FTP and ftp://defoetravel.com - FTP directory:
defoetravel it will either tell me the folder does not exist at the server
location (and I have checked- it is there) or it hangs up with the following
message: Opening Web site ftp://defoetravel.com/defoetravel. I have waited
over an hour for it to connect and nothing ever happens. What the heck am I
doing wrong? I have hosted other sites an not had this kind of problem.
Any suggestions?

What did GoDaddy support say when you contacted them?
The URL you gave with an "@" wouldn't be correct..that's an email address.
What did GoDaddy tell you to use?

Interesting on the "@" symbol, because in my network places I have three
other ftp network places set up using that format and I had no problem
uploading them. I have not contacted godaddy yet because I thought it was an
XP or Frontpage (or my ineptitude) issue. I will contact them right now and
get back to you.

Debby:

With Front Page I would suggest that you do not encode the user/pass
in the command line like that.

Use the publish feature and click the option for "FTP Site". Enter the
FTP url as ftp://ftp.example.com. Enter the username and password when
prompted. It should work fine.

Without writing a book, there are a variety of changes in recent
versions of windows as well as at the other end with FTP servers in
the last couple years (dis)allowing these types of logins. It's not
necessarily the fault of the client or the server but just a set of
decisions made as to how FTP will be implemented.

I have entered the ftp://defoetravel.com and ignored the directory prompt,
exactly as instructed. This is when the computer hangs up on : Opening Web
site ftp://defoetravel.com... GoDaddy informed me today that the
defoetravel.com wa not pointed to a hosting server. So I have done as they
instructed. So far I am getting the same response from FrontPage as above.
