full bleed background photo

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel I need to have a full bleed image in the background that prints and is able to become a pdf without the white border/margin on the bottom. I have read similar posts and changed my preferences in the print preferences Bob said to do, all possible margins are set to 0. It shows on screen as a full bleed but when it prints it leaves a .5 inch at the bottom. My epson printer will print to within an eighth of an inch so it is not my printer.

Please help. I never understood if the poster with the previous problem got their background picture to print without the bottom .5 border.

Thank you.

Hi,

I have an Epson Artisan 700. If I choose a solid color fill I see a
small white border around the entire document in Print Preview and when
saved as PDF.

The same result was achieved using Format > Background > Fill Effects >
Picture and inserting a picture that has the exact same height to width
ratio as the page.

Obtaining truly full bleed from Word could be something about Word,
something about the printer driver, or both. In this case I would send
feedback to both companies. Microsoft feedback is available from Word's
Help menu. You can send feedback to Epson via their web site
http://www.epson.com/

Yep, I have used the Background technique that you mentioned as well as inserting it as a picture and making it a watermark. I've also tried drawing a plain blue box for a test. In all cases you can see it as a full bleed, sometimes in print preview mode it shows it as a full bleed, however when you go to print, it shows in the epson preview box with a bottom .5" white border, and then when I print, it actually prints the white border.

Have you tried printing your tests and images?

Word gets its measurements for the impression area from the printer driver.

I can do full-bleed on my old HP PSC, but that was marketed as a "photo
printer" and the drivers are set up for full bleed.

But the ability is rare, and you need to work with your printer manufacturer
to tell you how to achieve a printer driver that will enable the ability.

Word's margins can't change this: the margins are added to the impression
area, which comes from the printer driver. Word has no control over this.

Cheers

Hi,

A test image indicates that I can not print full-bleed. There's a small
white area surrounding the shape.

Thanks for the print driver tip! I will probably end up buying a new printer, but at least I will know to make sure the printer "allows" for this before purchasing.

It is so strange that my printer will print all the way to the 1/8" of the page except for in Word.....I believe I have checked all preferences and borders, margins, etc....why my print driver would only send this message to Word is odd....do you find it only happens in Word or are there other programs that don't "relate" accurately to print drivers?

I work in PS, AI, FH, etc.....
