Full task path in resource pool

Hi,

for several weeks I was trying to get the full path of a task withi
the Resource Usage panel. Finally I found this comment right here:

http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Project/microsoft.public.project/2009-02/msg01177.html

My problem is solved in some project plans now. Combining "Summar
Name" and "Copy Task Path" is exactly what I was looking for.

But now I have another problem: this does NOT work in a Resource Pool.

Can you tell me how to solve this problem? How can you display th
whole path of a task within the Resource Usage View within a Resourc
Pool? I am using Project 2003. Is there an (easier) way do solve thi
problem in Project 2007??

Thanks for your help!

If I understand you correctly, you need to see the full task path as a column
field in the left part of the Resource Usage view?

Not quite the same thing, but you could achieve this by using intelligent
WBS codes. First, configure the WBS code mask in Project > Define WBS Codes.
Then populate the field with meaningful data in one of the Task views -
something like P1.Test.Regression.

Then simply add that field to the Resource Usage View.

No that´s not my problem. I am already able to display the ful path i
"Resource Usage".
But NOT within a resource pool. There I can only see the task of
resource. But although I have activated the macros "summary name" an
"copy task path", I do NOT get the full path of this task in my resourc
pool.

Only in the resource pool! In a single project the macros are workin
very fine. Does anybody know why? And the even more important question
how can I display the full path in the resource pool??

Thank

I am not sure I follow. What do you mean by Resource Pool? Are you talking
about a shared resource pool for many projects, resource usage for a single
project, or the resource sheet in one project?

If it's a shared resource pool, which view?

I am talking about the view "Resource usage" within a Resource Pool o
several projects.

There I want to display the full path. In a single plan, I am alread
able to display it in the "Resource Usage" view

I just tried it out. I haven't used those macros - which sound interesting,
but intelligent WBS Codes work just fine in a Resource Pool Resource Usage
View - in 2007, but I don't think that function has changed much since 2003.

Just make sure to add a prefix for each project when defining the code mask,
and you will have pretty much what you're looking for. If you are instead
looking for someone to troubleshoot those macros in a shared resource environment,
I would suggest that you repost with a more specific title.

But with the WBS Code I can only display the "Numbers" of the path, o
am I wrong? It´s similar to "Task Outline Number", isn´t it

Pardon me for bumping in. Those macros will not work in a resource
pool for one simple reason -- they work on _tasks_ and a resource
pool file does not have any tasks -- only assignments. The best you
will be able to do is to open the pool with the 3rd option "Open
resource pool read-write and all other sharer files into a new
master project...." Run the macros in the master project, look at
the Resource Usage view and you should be all set.

To answer your other question -- no, this isn't easier in Project
2007. In fact, due to changes in the assignment fields, it's
actually a bit harder as you have to copy the task assignment field
to the resource assignment field as well.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

You can define text in the WBS code. Depending on the size of your project,
should only take a couple of minutes.

Check out the code mask in the Project > Define WBS Code dialog box....then
simply type whatever text you want:

Example:
Proj1:DEV.ARCH.Mod1.Stdrds
Proj1:TEST.UAT.Round1
