Fun ways to learn how to use excel

Alan

Hi
I am looking for fun ways to introduce students to IT, mainly
Word,PowerPoint & Excel. I came across an example of a quiz in Excel, using
combo boxes, macros, IF statements and buttons, I modififed it slightly and
tried it on my students with great success.
My question is really, does any one know of other exercise on this sort of
vien, it does not have to be Excel, it just has to be fun and informative.

many thanks

well, you can always make them do the regular cirriculum then reward them by
showing them easter eggs like the pin-ball game in Word 97 (i think that's
the version it's in)

i am hoping to cover a good part of the cirriculum by this method so they
don't know that they, then amaze them with the knowledge they have gained.
But if nothing else "pin ball" might be the way forward.
thanks

Hi Alan

it might not fall into the category of "fun" but i use an order form
scenario with students from Intermediate level through to VBA level
(different functionality for each level) at the "intermediate" level we
cover
Data Validation / NOW() / TODAY() / WEEKDAY() / WORKDAY() (sometimes) / IF()
/ VLOOKUP() / cell comments / ISNA() / ISBLANK() / Range Names / Worksheet
Protection / Workbook Protection / Templates

if you're interested email me direct (julied_ng at hcts dot net dot au) and
i'll send the workbook to you and an outline of how i teach it (and a copy
of a "fully functional version" using VBA as well). If you don't mind
sharing i'ld like to see the Excel Quiz one you were talking about.

I also have a Mortgage calculator spreadsheet that covers goal seek / single
& double data tables & scenarios.

With Word i have a basic document that i use to to teach styles, bullets /
numbering / paragraph formatting / page formatting / graphics / inserting
files / columns / section breaks / headers & footers / and probably a couple
of other things too. I also use the same document as the basis for my
powerpoint courses.

Cheers
JulieD
