Functions Grayed Out in Word

I've recently installed the latest update for Office XP, and I have Word
2002. Now, when I open word, I can't perform many functions such as: save,
save as, options, preferences, etc.....

Anybody else have this problem? we have other machines in the office with
the same software, but don't have this problem. One thing I have different
on my machine is Adobe Acrobat Standard. I am wondering if this is causing a
conflict with Word?

Please, if anyone can help, this is very frustrating!
