Just for those who might be helped by this information, an overview of how
eps illustrations are displayed by different eps filters (epsimp32) in Word
version 2000, 2002 and 2003:
At our company we recently noticed that after installing Oulook 2003 on our
computers, that linked eps illustrations in Word 2000 started to resize when
they were updated (using e.g. F9 key). The same happened when we inserted
new illustrations that were e.g. 10cm wide: Word displayed the image 7.62cm
wide when scaled at 100%.
Because we use quite some versions of word in our company, we decided to see
what was going on. The problem appeared to be the eps filter epsimp32.flt
located in the folder (e.g.) C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Grphflt
Different versions of Word use different versions of this file, with
different results. The installation of Outlook 2003 on a computer with Word
2000 had changed the eps filter, resulting in resized images.
Below is an overview of how we found 4 different filters to behave with
regard to the actual size (as defined in Adobe Illustrator) of eps files. If
the table belows says OK, it means that a box of 10x10cm in Illustrator, is
actually displayed and printed in word as 10x10cm.
Our conclusion is that all new filters DON'T work for Word 2000. If you have
Word 2000, stick with the 76KB filter.
