gantt: How to put activities in a row?

B

Bernd Brenner

Hello Project Users,

I have a question about the gantt view:

When I enter lets say 10 Activities with all a length of 2 days, is
there a MS-Project function or

feature which sets the dates AUTOMATICALLY in a continous row like
this:

act1 ----
act2 ----
act3 ----
act4 ----
..
..
..

?

I don't want to use the link function, so I don't want to link one
activity to the next one (so there would be appearing arrows). There is
no dependency amoung the activies, so that's why. I still want to be
free to move the activites around.

Thanks for any hint,
Bernd from Munich

Hi Bernd,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'm not sure why you would want tasks to appear thus, but if you assign a
resource to all of them and then level, you'll see what you want.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Another option could be to highlight the finish date for task 1 then use
paste special to paste a link into the start date for task 2 then repeat for
other tasks.

Hope this helps

Hi Mike,

thanks for you help!

I do not understand exactly what you mean with "level". Could you
please explain this? I assigned now all acitivies to a ressource. What
would be the next step?

I have a project with possibly only one person working on it. I want
first to list the acitivies with duration and then see (after putting
the activies in a row), how long one person will work on it. Then I
will see if my plan would exceed the milestones and decide to get a
second person to work on it.
Thats why I want the activities automatically be set in a row.

I could use the "link" function and link one activity to the next. But
I do not want to use this feature because there is no real dependency
between the acitivies.

Regards,
Bernd

The next step is Tools, Level Resources (or in other versions Resource
Leveling)

Hello Mike and Jan,

thanks a lot that is exactly what I have been searching for!

For german users: The menu is called "Extras" -> "Kapazitätsabgleich".
