garbled text

Hi

Win Xpsp2
MS office 2003

After transferring a document from desktop (also xp & office 2003) to laptop
I am unable to read it, as it has many small squares on many pages, yet the
original doc. has one page of text only.
I have experienced similar with the Excel files.

The method of transferring was by an 8gig memory stick......here lies the
problem?

I am able to transfer those same "files" normally using floppy or CD....

Maybe I am in the wrong newsgroup here?

Regards

Terry

It could be a bad stick or a bad USB port. Try switching to a different
port first.
Have you tried copying the file back from the stick to the desktop
computer and checking the file?

Thanks BobCP

Yes tried all suggested ideas incl. full virus check on stick.
I also formatted stick did transfer of "good" file only to have same garbled
pages.

I have no faith at present with "stick's", and that is a pity due to the
ease of use of them. I may consider Sony stick, but far more expensive, as I
transfer OK via Candy floppy.

Could it be the case that on the laptop the font used in the file is not
present.
Maybe: select the whole text en choose another font?
