Gateway definition in R&D project

Junkyard Engineer

I have to implement R&D project management (500+ portfolio). Since each
project is quite different, I'm looking to have a kind of generic Gateway
Definition and Planning for the projects follow-up to help the planners
browse among those gates and choose what is appropriate to speed up project
planning.

Other area of PM is well covered in litterature but it looks that R&D PM and
gates planning is left on the side.

Any lead might help.
