I am not sure how to describe the problem without some background information. So, here goes. I am using excel to create a lesson on linear functions.
I have on one side a table of cells with the x values and next to those cells the y values, which are then also shown on a scatter chart. I have two other cells that are connected to sliders, one for the slope and one for the y-intercept of a line. The y values are calculated by the product each of the corresponding x cells and the slope cell that changes with the slider plus the y-intercept cell that changes with another slider.

In some other cells, I show an equation of this linear function, so I want the numbers to change with everything else. For one of the numbers I take the absolute values of difference of two of the y value cells.

Here's the problem. if I in a separate cell take the GCD or LCM of the value in the cell of the difference of the y-values, it will tell me the correct value in the cell, but then sometimes but not always give a number that is one less than the number as the GCD or the LCM function works the same way.

If this has made any sense, what can I do to fix this? Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand entirely, but it sounds like you're seeing
rounding errors. XL's calculations are based on the stored value in a
cell, even if the displayed value is rounded (e.g., a value displayed as
4.0 may in fact be 3.9999994).

One way to ensure the values are integers is to use ROUND(), e.g.,
instead of

=GCD(A1,A2)

use

=GCD(ROUND(A1,0), ROUND(A2,0))
