'general extraction error ' in windows xp

WHEN I START MY CP SOME ERROR OCCURED IN MY DESKTOP.ANDSOME PROGRAMES I CANT
RUN PROPERLY.AND ANY TIME IT SHUTDOWN.SO PLEASE HELP ME.
