Generics with Actuals

Hello. We're using MSP 2003 Server. We are using managed timesheet periods.
One of our PM's has a generic resource on a task along with actual resources.
"Actual Work Protected" and "Actual Work" is showing 6 hrs in the project
plan for the generic. I have already tried syncing with actuals. Has anyone
else run into this or can explain it.

This begs the question, why do you have generic resources on tasks that are
already started? In project, actual work will accrue for tasks that have
their percent complete adjusted. Has the PM made any changes to the task?
