Get 0x800CC90 on restarting Outlook 2002

i close Outlook before putting computer into Hibernate. On restarting, I get
the above error message. I thought it might be due to the Hibernate mode but
found that I get it just by closing and reopening Outlook. Message states
that server responded "?ERR Cannot connect to POP server..."

I am running XP with latest service updates. I have a router firewall and
use Avast! virus check. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be
appreciated. It is a pain to have to shutdown computer to get back to email.

Thanks for any help!

Unfortunately I can. Here it is:

Task 'mail.comcast.net - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90)
: 'Your incoming (POP3) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you
continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or
Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: ?ERR Cannot connect
to POP server 80.177.18.206 (80.177.18.206:110), connect error 10060'

i have occasionally had this problem in the past. Once I think that I was
able to fix it by using PCTools. That has not worked this time. One more
piece of information that might be helpful is that I have the backup add-in
installed. I don't recall if I started having problems before or not. I have
not tried a reinstall yet.

Thanks for any clues or suggestion you might have!

That address is a DSL address belonging to demon.co.uk. Since you're using
Comcast, I'd be surprised if that's your server. So, if that is the message
coming from your server, it appears your account in incorrectly set up. I'd
review the Comcast help pages again, were this a problem for me.

I think that it he IP address is bogus because I am using a router as a
firewall. If it was a bad setup with Comcast I would expect my email to fail
after a cold start.

My problem occurs only after shutting down Outlook and then restarting it
without rebooting. It seems like Outlook changes some parameter and then
defaults back to correct value only when rebooting.

I ran the "Install" fix of Office programs. That made no difference.

Thanks for your help so far. Do you have any other suggestions?

Make sure you're not running any mail scanner, like an email add-in for
tyour antivirus program.

I run avest! v 4.7 antivirus program. I do have the MSFT Outlook add-in for
backing up my .pst file.

I found that I can leave Outlook open, hibernate, and restart with no
problem. This makes it sound like Outlook is doing something strange when
shutting down.

Thanks for your help.
