Get row number from another cell

Instead of using the link:

=Sheet1!A3

I would like the row number 3 to be taken from cell A1, something like

=Sheet1!A(A1)

but this doesn't work. Can anyone advise me of how to do this.

Hi DKerr,

If cell A1 contains the value 3
=ADDRESS(A1,1) gives $A$3
=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(A1,1) ) gives the value in the cell $A$3

The key is the ADDRESS function, look it up in Help for more info.

Think we could put it say, in Sheet2's B1:
=INDIRECT("'Sheet1'!A" & A1)
where in (Sheet2's) A1: 3

The above would return the same as the link: =Sheet1!A3
