Hello all:

Lately I am getting emails that are addressed to others or looks more like
fake addresses. for example my email address is (e-mail address removed) and I am
recieving emails addressed (e-mail address removed) and there is no such name as abc in
our firm. We are currently using Outlook XP sp3 for client with Exchange 5.5
sp4 in the back. Does anyone know what could be causing this, I would really
appreciate your help.

Thanks.

The email was sent via Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) likely. BCC recipients are
defined in the SMTP envelope during the SMTP session and not are listed in
the email header.

For Exchange 2000/2003

If you turn on your SMTP protocol tracing you should see the original SMTP
envelope recipients. The original SMTP envelope recipients includes all
addresses including the BCC.

To see this happening enable logging

1) Open Exchange System Manager
2) Navigate to <your exchange organization> | Administrative Groups | <your
administrative group>
3) Right Click on <your exchange server> and select properties
4) Goto the Diagnostics Logging page
5) In Services select MSExchangeTransport
6) In Categories select SMTP Protocol
7) Set Logging Level to Maximum
8) Logs are generated to winnt\system32\logfiles\SMTPSV1

One Spam solution is Nemx Power Tools for Exchange (I represent this
company)
