Getting Office to default back to 2003, not 2007 trial

I seem to have, somehow, unleashed the Office 2007 Home & Student "trial"
version on my Vista-based PC. Now, when I doubleclick on any Excel or
PowerPoint files I have, they open with Excel2007 or PowerPoint2007...

Worse yet, the trial apparently has expired, so I can't do anything with the
opened files.

I *can* first open the relevant Office 2003 Professional product (Excel,
etc.) on my PC, then open the document in question that way, but it adds
steps.

I tried to uninstall Office 2007, but it complains about something-or-other
being corrupted and prompts me to put in the original CD or DVD. Trouble is
- this was all part of the magic stuff bundled when I bought the PC with
Vista on it, so have no such CDs or DVDs.

So... 2 questions:
1) How can I associated Excel 2003 (or PowerPoint 2003, Word 2003) with the
files, rather than Excel 2007? (When I do the Properties thing, it just says
"Excel" - I don't have a choice of which version.)

2) How can I uninstall Office 2007 without the requested CD/DVD?

Thanks!

You should have uninstalled your trial, prior to installing 2003.
The MS advice with multiple versions is always to install the earliest
first.
An after the event thing I know; but what you did may have 'corrupted' your
installation.

If you search the groups an MVP - Patrick (Schmitt)? posted info or a link
to his site for how to manually remove a beta version of 2007, which he
stated worked with the trial version.
If that MVP is watching please forgive the bastardisation of your name :)

After following his procedure you will likely have to repair your 2003
installation
