getting pages indexed

I have had my web site 5 years. About half of my 500 pages are indexed on
Google. How do I get the rest of the pages indexed?

Make sure the pages are not frames pages and make sure they contain the following meta tag:
<meta name="ROBOTS" content="index,follow">

Not to appear too stupid, what exactly does that phrase index, follow mean?

It tells robots that honor the tag, to index the page and to follow any links that appear on the
page.
