Getting people to my website

There aren't any quick fixes that are worth paying for, as Eleanor points
out. If you want to put money into it, using Pay-Per-Click advertising is
probably your best bet.

The best *free* way is to build your site so that it has text content rich
in your chosen keywords, particularly on the Home page. If your site is
literally not even listed with Google yet (search for some text that will be
unique to your site), you should submit the URL to Google.

It also helps to get lots of other web sites - preferably related,
subject-wise - to link TO your web site. You can often do that by offering
to exchange links.

I have been working on getting search engines to find me. What is the
best
way to do this? I was looking at this site http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
would this be a good way to go?

Before you spend any money please goto: http://dmoz.org/ Which is the "Open
Directory Project"
And register for free. If they accept your website they will then send the
information to every major search engine you have ever heard off. It takes
those search engines 3-6 weeks to update from the ODP listing but the
coverage is amazing and is free.

The search engines will (eventually) find your site. Be patient - it won't
happen overnight, but it will happen.

You changed the subject. Your subject line was getting "people"
to your site. In the body you said getting "search engines" to
find you. In time, the search engines will find you. For most
websites, in time, very few people will find you. Sometimes I
think I am the only person visiting my sites.

Very true. I guess I was thinking that if search engines found me, people
would too. I'll keep trying!
