Getting reminder for a flagged message after email moved out of in

I want to be able to send emails to myself with a follow up flag and receive
a reminder, which works except when I set a rule to move emails received from
myself to be moved to another folder. Moving the email out of the inbox does
not allow for reminders to be set for some reason. Am I missing something?
I want to use this option for follow ups separate from the Calendar and Tasks.

Milly Staples [MVP - Outlook]

Reminders only fire from default mail folders - a well known fact in all
versions of Office. You can use a third party add-in from Outlook MVP Ken
Slovak - Extended Reminders that will allow you to get reminders from
non-default folders.

Items not in a default folder will only turn red but not fire a reminder
window.
