Getting rid of an extremely annoying line!

I have a weird 'floating' double line in a word doc which just won't disappear no matter what I do! I can't highlight it to delete it or anything, the highlighting won't pick it up. And if I keep typing it just moves down. Can anyone help on this? Many thanks
