Ghost image from Page 1 appears later

I'm making a booklet using the utility in Word 2002... 20 pages from 5 letter
sheets folded to 5-1/2 by 8-1/2. The document has 3 sections: #1 - outside
cover; #2 - 16 sequentially numbered pages of text; #3 - inside cover. I
placed a border around the first page using a transparent (rectangle from the
Draw utility. Everything looks fine on the screen in both the Print Layout
View and in the Print Preview mode, but when the booklet is printed the
border from the first page (outside front cover) also appears on page 19
(inside back cover. It prints this way on 2 HP printers and in a PDF printer
too. Any ideas? Anyone want to see the file?

Well, now, the problem was a border from a previous try that had 'slipped off
the page' but was nonetheless buried in the document. It flipped from one
page to the next but never showed up on the screen. Durndest thing!

Is the border attached to the first page header or footer of the section? --
in which case, unless you have cleared the 'Same as previous' button on the
Headers and Footers toolbar, it will repeat on the first page of the
subsequent section.

Hi, Jez,

I thought of that; headers/footers were indeed disconnected between
sections. The ghost image turned out not to be the border from the first
page, I proved that by eliminating that border and printing again... the
ghost was still haunting. Rather, I had applied a border to another page
some time earlier, but when it 'disappeared' I gave it no thought as I didn't
want it anyway. Evidently that 'experimental' border went into Neverland
(Michael, did you do this?) and would not show up on the screen, even though
it was still wandering around in the document. Again, it didn't show in
Print Preview, but sure as heck printed out on 3 different printers. With
certain CAD programs I use, if you place an item 'off the sheet' it can come
back to haunt you; perhaps this happens in Word as well. If I had known what
to look for I could have put the Word .doc into a text editor and found the
ghost border, but that's beyond me. Thanks for your hint. -Jim
