Gibberish out of keyboard

My WORD 2002 sometimes produces strange letters from the
keyboard. CNTRL-SHIFT-ZERO fixes it temporarily but how
can I prevent it?

Can you describe the "strange letters"?

.
The strange letters are English letters but they do not
correspond to what should be typed at the keyboard. When I
type a letter on the keyboard, a different letter is
displayed on the screen. The problem is all corrected (for
a while) by me pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ZERO but the problem
recurrs.

If you have multiple keyboards set up in Control Panel, then LEFT ALT+SHIFT
toggles you through the various keyboards.
