Gmail and IMAP

Google is in the process of providing IMAP access to GMail.

First you have to enable IMAP by going to the settings window; the tab
formerly labeled "Forwarding and POP" will be labeled "Forwarding and
POP/IMAP" and should let you turn on IMAP access.

General configuration information is at:

and information for Apple Mail is at:

First and foremost, THANKS!!!!

Without your post, I would never have known this service is now
available.

Now for the follow-up question. Since I was previously set up for POP
service with GMail service what is the best way to change over.

Option 1. Just change the server in the existing account settings
(note the setting configuration does say POP server) so it may not
even work to change it to an imap server address.

Option 2. Create a new set of account settings selecting IMAP as the
type of protocol and delete/(remove from the accounts that check for
mail) the existing one?

Thanks.

You can leave the POP account set up, but just uncheck it from the Send &
receive all schedule. This way you can easily switch back to POP. You
selection for what to use must be set in Gmail Settings via your web
browser.

I plan to be setting up my gmail account as IMAP real soon, and plan
to move messages off my comp onto the GMAIL server through IMAP.
