Going back to .pst from exchange ?

Hi all

I've been using outlook for a while now but recently we installed a trial
version of Exchange server to see if it was worth getting. Unfortunatly I
joined my outlook account with it (I say unfortunate because it never really
worked that well) Now we are geting rid of the test server and I would like
my Outlook to stop looking for it and to get back all the infor I have on
it.

Is there some way I can configure my client to remove all connections/
memories with the exchange server and have it back the way it was ?

Thanks for any help you can provide
Best regards

First move your messages from the Exchange server to a pst-file (File->
New-> Outlook Data File). Then set this pst-file as the default delivery
location; Tools-> E-mail Accounts-> button Next. Remove the Exchange service
and add your original connection again.

Just curious; what were the issues in setting up the Exchange server?

Hi Robert

Thanks for the reply, one question, we don't use exchange for email so will
your method also work for my tasks, contacts, notes etc ?

The main problem was that the server was runnign in a duffernt location to
me so everything ran way to slow over the vpn connection to be acceptable.
We have alot of things running over the line as it is and if there were 100
users pulling over this as well we feel it would be too much. Maybe we'll
re consider when broadband speeds increase here (Ireland is pretty slow in
this regards)

Thanks again for your help
Best regards

Yep, works for that as well.

Sounds like you haven't fully optimized Exchange and Outlook for your
connection type. For remote connections to an Exchange 2003 server you can
configure Outlook 2003 to use Cached Exchange Mode and connect by RPC over
HTTP. Cached Exchange mode will create a local copy of the Exchange mailbox
so it won't have to use the network when going through already received
e-mail. You can also configure it to only download headers first. RPC over
HTTP(S) will allow you to create a secure connection to the Exchange server
with maintaining all the Exchange functionality but eliminating the need of
a VPN connection.
