Google Mail POP problem

After not getting outlook connector working, i thought I would just
ditch hotmail and use my google account. Moved all my emails and setup
google's pop3 server. But I keep on getting this error message:

Task 'pop.googlemail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) :
'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving
(POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your
server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

pop support is on for my gmail account and everything is configured
correctly, I checked it over and over. I looks like something may be
blocking outlook from making a connection out. I looked at the
connection settings and it all looks fine. Disabled firewall and
everything but still nothing, any idea's?

Just to add further to my above post, I have disabled most networking
software, bandwidth monitoring, all the unessential network adapters,
other software which uses the internet, practically everything, only
the critical process's are running and outlook. Taken off all
firewalls and antivirus, anti-malware, anti spyware but the problems
still remains.
Another error message it gives when I do the first send and receive
is:

Task 'pop.googlemail.com - Receiving' reported error (0x80040154) :
'Unknown Error 0x80040154'

No response, well I gave up on Outlook as the problem was isolated to
it, and have gone to thunderbird, and initial thoughts are why did I
even bother with outlook for so long. It go all the features that I
want, calender, tasks section, etc.. and room for more add-ons, runs
faster as well and great built in support for Google services as a
whole.
Best decision I ever made.

If you're happy, so are we.
