Granting and managing rights for tens of project sites

Tommi

Hello all,

We have SharePoint v2 application serving some project sites. MS project
server can automatically create project site, such as
http://sharepoint.com/sites/projectserver_xxx/ (here xxx represents the
project code number).

We have some people that would need to have a read access to all these
sites. Individually granting the rights would increase administrative work
too much.

Currently we have tried to create a cross-site-group and add this group into
all project sites. However, the issue is cross-site-group only works under
same site collection, but these auto generated project sites are all
individual site collections. I.e. if we create a cross-site-group in one
project site, it is not available on another. All these project sites are on
top level site collection.

Our requirement is to create a group and add this group into all project
sites, so that later on admins can control this group memeber to give them
access to all project sites or none. If the cross-site-group cannot be
implemented on this situation, is there any other walkaround?

Best regards,
Tommi

Thanks for your answer, but this is probably not what I was looking for. I
tested it and it did not work.

For clarification, the project sites that we need access are listed in Admin
-> Manage Windows SharePoint Services -> Manage SharePoint sites

Here we have the listing of all project SharePoint sites and we create new
sites through "Create Site". By default we have access to the sites, but in
most cases the rights have been removed.

Tommi:

I'm not sure that understand your problem. You seem to be using a
non-standard configuration when you state that every project workspace is in
it's own site collection. And, when you state that permissions are being
removed, it sounds like you are trying to manage some permissions manually,
and are causing conflicts with the Project Server's permission sync routine.
So, I'm not sure that I can help you sort this out with a few NG posts with
limited understanding of your architecture. Perhaps someone else has some
ideas.
