Graphic behind text on screen, but does not print that way

Hi,

I am running Word 97. In a one page document I have
inserted a *.jpeg picture. I have formatted the picture
using the "Float over text" and Wrapping = None. I then
select the image and choose the "Order" option,
selcting "Send behind Text". The image is no behind the
text, everyting is the way I want it.

I then print to my HP Laserjet 2100 and lo-and-behold the
image print in front of the text!! The image on the
screen is correct but it does not print with the image
hehind the text....HELP - What the heck is going on here?

PS I have sent the image behind the text multiple times.
It always looks correct on the screen but it always prints
in front of the text.

Some laser printers print text first, then graphics, which would give the
result you're seeing. There may be a setting somewhere in your printer
Properties that would change this.

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion. I opened a previous page that
I created some time ago with a background picture and text
in front. It prints fine. I then created a different
page and it prints fine with the same graphics.

The original problem document is now a three page document
and will eventuall be 30 pages of so. I can see no
difference in settings between any of the three
documents. I deleted the image and re-inserted it with no
change...looks correct on my screen put prints
incorrectly. Is there a setting I am overlooking between
these three documents? I am sure this is not a printer
problem. This is something in MS Word 97 I am
overlookin...

Are all the graphics either on the page or in the header? There is a
difference, I think. That is, even though both graphics may be in the
drawing layer, one anchored to a paragraph in the document body may behave
differently from one anchored to the header paragraph.

Thank you. You pointed me in the right direction. Yes,
the difference between the three documents is the one I am
having problems with has a line across the page in the
header! And even though my intention is to not have the
line on the first page only on those after, it appears to
force the layers to print in a different order. I found
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 197759 which explains
(somewhat badely) this phenomenon. Since a line is a
graphic element it causes my object to print over the
text. I cut the image from the body of the text and
pasted it into the header, then sent it behind the text
and everything printed fine.

Thanks for your help.
