graphic paste-in seems different in word 2003

I used to copy graphs from exel and paste them into word as a bitmap because
I felt that is how they looked the best. Now after I got office 2003, I can
paste the same exel graph into the same word file as a bitmap and it does not
look as "clean" or "legible" as they did before I had office 2003. Anybody
seen this or have any suggestions. Thanks.

Suzanne, thanks for the reply. I just tried printing a page. Although the
two graphs (one pasted as a bitmap before Word 2003, and one pasted as a
bitmap after Word 2003) look very different on the screen, they look almost
identical when I print them. I would however, still like to be able to make
my new graphs paste in and look like my old graphs on the screen.

In this case, it would appear to be a display issue. You might try updating
your video driver, changing the screen resolution, etc.

Thanks again Suzanne. Somebody else here in the office said it might be a
display issue, but what I don't understand about that is that I can open up
the document that I started writting before I had office 2003. Then I can go
to a page with a graph, and paste-in THE SAME GRAPH, as a bitmap just like I
have always done. Then I can look at two images of the same graph side by
side on my screen at the same time. The old one looks great, the new one
does not look good. It seems like if it was a display issue they would both
look bad?
Thanks.

Your reasoning seems unimpeachable. I would guess that the pasting has
something to do with it. Have you tried pasting in some other format?

Yes, the three options available other than pasting in the whole excel object
are Picture (Windows Metafile), Bitmap, and Picture (Enhanced Matafile). Of
these options, they all look the same, but non of them look like it did when
I pasted as a bitmap before Office 2003.

Also, for what it's worth, if I create a .pdf file from the word file, the
images appear in the .pdf file like they do on the screen (distinctly
different), yet, when I print on paper, they look almost identical.

Hi there - I've had this problem too. Are you pasting in graphs or cells from
a worksheet? If a graph, you can Paste Special as a Metafile. If cells from
a worksheet, what I've done that worked was do a Paste Special into Word as a
bitmap. If you need to then convert it to a JPG or TIF, you could go to MS
Photo Editor (Question for the ages: Why did they get rid of that excellent
program???) and Paste as New Image, then save as a graphic.

I had to go back to my old Office 2000 and reinstall Photo Editor. But the
result I get is EXACTLY what I see on the screen.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Elaine.

I am pasting cells and graphs, but mostly graphs. When I had office 2000, I
always pasted in as a bitmap, because I felt it gave me the highest quality
result. But now with office 2003, even when I paste as a bitmap the result
is a very low quality graphic. I even tried every other option in the paste
special menu, and non looked as good as a bitmap did in office 2000.

What I ended up doing to get my paper done was to print the graphs from
excel, then scan them and save them as tif files. I then inserted them as
pictures into the word document. This was a waste of paper and time, and it
still did not look as good as I would have liked, but it worked.

I found it frustrating that I have been able to go months without printing
anything and now, I had to print a bunch of excel graphs just so I could put
them back into electronic form in a word document.

Microsoft - please improve the ability to copy a graph from excel into word
and make it look good.
