graphics conversion filter

Have recently recieved an email containing a Wordpad document with graphics.
On trying to open said document I get an error message stating "Can not open
graphics conversion filter". I believe the original document was generated
in Word 97, and I am running Windows XP. When I click on "OK" for continuing
with document conversion nothing happens, the error message reappears. Any
ideas or solutions gratefully appreciated,
