Graphing in access

Is there a way by coding in VB, that I can open Excel in the background to
produce a graph with data from Access, and import the graph from Excel to
Access automatically whenever the report is opened???

Why?

Access and Excel use the same Microsoft Graphs so I am not sure why you want
to use Excel to create the graph and then import it back.

In the Design View of your Report, use the Menu Insert / Chart ... and
follow the prompt ...

Thanks for the reply. I have tired that method, but with no success. I'm
trying to do a pie chart with is best to show off the data. I'm trying to
graph two data series on one chart. For example, the Hours Used vs. Hours
Remaining. The graph I'm getting only graph one of the series. Can you please
help with that???

Pie chart is a *one-series* chart whether you use Access or Excel. I think
you need 2 pie charts, not one pie chart with 2 series of values.

I understand. When I graph the numbers in Excel, I put the Series in Columns,
which gives me the Pie Chart I want. Is there a way to do that in Access. Put
the data in column, so the series can be graphed?

I am not sure I understand your question.

In Access (as well as in Excel), each Pie chart can only handle *one* series
of values. If you want 2 series using pie charts, you nedd to use 2 charts,
not one.

Perhaps, you should post some sample data and what you get out of Excel that
you can't get out of Access related to the sample data.

Total Budget Hours 800

Billable Hours
Project 1 100
Project 2 167
Project 3 200

Total Billable Hours 467
Budget Left 333
I'm only graphing Total Biilable Hours versus Budget Left. In access,
because the data goes across the page rather that vertical, I get a pie graph
with one straight line. In excel, step 2 of the chart wizard, you can change
the series from in rows, to in columns. In rows get you a straight line. You
can't change that in access.

You still only have *one* series shown in the Chart, whether in Access or
Excel.

What you need is to create a Query in Access that returns a 2 x 2 set of
data like:

Billble Hours 467
Remaining Budget Hours 333

and then use this Query as the DataSource for your Chart in Access.

BTW, how do you get a straight line in a Pie chart??? I don't use graphs a
lot but I am sure Pie Chart always has a circle representing the total and
the sectors representing the proportions of each component value compare to
the total value.
