Gray Font Menu?

I recently upgraded to MS Office 2004 for Mac. When using Word, I cannot see
the fonts under the font menu. The dropdown list for the fonts is filled
with gray bars that make it impossible to see the font name or style. It is
the same way for viewing fonts through the formatting toolbar. If I select
one of the fonts that has a gray bar through it, the font in my document
changes, but the name of the font does not show up in the formatting toolbar.
I tried to go through the tools / customize toolbars/menus and select
WYSIWYG for seeing the fonts, but that didn't help. Any suggestions?
