grayed out items

All of a sudden, some items are not available to me. For instance I can't
cliick on "save as" from the file menu or from the tools menu I can't get to
options. What happend, I reinstalled and that didn't help. I am on Office
2003.

What application in Office? What version of Windows? Have you installed any updates or other software recently? If, for example,
Microsoft Word, if you hold the control key when starting the app (safe mode) do you have the same issues?

I'm in Office 2003 - Word, xp professional. I installed any updates
microsoft had available, hoping that would help. Options is also grayed out.
