Grid Spacing Issues (2007)

I am having major issues with the grid spacing in PPT 2007, which I can
promise you is not identical to 2003. Aside from the fact the grid has
slightly changes location by a few pixels, I can not use the grib to get
exact measurements and sizes (as the grib would suggest).
Issue:
- set grid to "5 per cm" (0.2cm grid), snap to grid,
- try to draw a box 2cm x 2cm (can't do it, alway comes out at 1.98cm)
- copy that box 9 times and line up on grid (should be 20cm long - nope,
19.82cm) even if you manually make the boxes 2cmx2cm, they still line up on
the grid at 19.82cm.

It seems that the grid increments are 0.1982cm not 0.2cm

Can anyone explain why or provide a sustainable workaround.
I am redesigning our corporate templates and we use the grid a lot
(mannually and pin pointing locations with macros).

historically the grid has never been perfectly accurate; but this is really
bad.

Is there anyway to have ppt use Points instead of CM and Inches in manual
user input? (ie ruler in point, grid set to # of points, sizes in points)

I do use point in my macros, but need to match user inputs who work on the
grid.

I hear you...

You have *yet* Service Pack 2 for Office 2007 installed, right? (If not...
install it...)

then...

look for

Description of the PowerPoint 2007 hotfix package (Powerpoint.msp,
Pptconv.msp): June 30, 2009
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970943/en-us

"You enable the Snap objects to grid option in the Grid and Guides dialog
box. However, objects do not snap to the grid if the ruler is set in
centimeters."

install the hotfix and test again...

at least the snapping works and as far as spacing is set to 0,1 cm or 0,2
cm, and all sizes are correct (with the exception of 0,1 by 0,1 cm squares,
because they refuse to be 0,1 x 0,1 and want to be 0,13 x 0,13 cm) (sigh...)

Very cordialmente

Enric
