groove basics - file size limit

M

Mark EL

Hello,

I am in Washington DC using groove 2007 with my business partner in New York.
we both have laptops with XP.
We both just purchased the 1 year subscription to this product and have a
few questions. we are novices and would like some

1) We keep getting error messages for exceeding the 2GB folder size. Is
there a way to increase this?
Our assumption is to have a bunch of smaller folders and make sure none
exceeds 2 gb.

2) why is groove putting its own extension on each file - is this a
placeholder to download a file.

Im sorry to sound like such a novice - but im having trouble finding good
documentation for using this software

any help is welcome
thanks

Hi Mark,

There is a 2 GB limit. If you exceed the 2GB you cannot invite members into
your workspace.
Best practices show that keeping it below 1 GB is the way to go.
Your idea for smaller workspaces is the way to go.

The limit is there because of the danger that a new member will not receive
the whole workspace when he is being invited and in the background somebody
else is making a lot of changes then problems may happen.

And for you second question can you please tell me what you mean with
"groove putting its own extension on each file " can you give me an example.

Hi Mark,

I think I know what you mean with your second question.
This was when you open up an document and you see an extra number.

This is fixed with SP1

Hi Mark

re the error on file / workspace size this is a fact and cannot be changed. question is are you using the files tool, or the special folder share type of workspace. If the latter then there is a limit of 5,000 files as well. This does not technically apply to the files tool but the size limit does.

easy to create multiple files tools to do the sharing of data in 3 GB chunks - have them in sepaerate workspaces by function and you should have no problem.

The Groove "extension" indicates that the file is currently being downloaded / refreshed - goes back to the normal file extension when done.

I have used groove now for 8 eyars and find nothing better for all kinds of information sharing, with very few limitations, and great efficiency

best regards
