Groove members appear Offline

S

sam

After creating a First workspace I invited two (2) other members that were in
the Public Groove Directory. When we recently agreed to be Online they
appear Offline even though they were both connected.

On the other hand, after one of the said two members created a Second
workspace I received and accepted an invitation. However, I appear there
Offline even though I can connect well with Windows Live Messenger and search
web pages.

In the Second workspace the other two (2) members can see one another's name
as Online when they are connected to the Internet. The problem is seeing my
name as Online when I am indeed connected.

In the First workspace I can see the other two (2) members' names. The
problem is seeing their names as Online when they are indeed connected to the
Internet. I do not have an idea why this happens.

I performed a few web searches on this matter, but they were not helpful.
Your kind assistance will be highly regarded.

Hi Sam,

Looks like a network problem.

Can you provide me with some more information about your network.
Are the workspace members on the same corp network, internet, or within the
same subnet.
Can you look at the communications manager, then network settings and expand
the home relay device. Can you check there if you only see disconnected or
more information behind that.
And are you running NOD anti-virus?

see ya,

Jeroen

Hi, Jeroen,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

All of the workspace members are just in the Internet as there is no corp
network. Two workspace members are located in PR while the other workspace
member is located in the USA.

When I opened the Communications Manager it reports: Communicating
Normally; then in

Activity Status
√ Instant Messages and Invitations Idle
√ Workspace 1 28.1 MB left to
transmit, 30 bytes left to receive
√ Workspace 2 Idle
√ Workspace 3 Idle

When I opened Communications Manager> Network Settings in

Setting Value
The is a list of eight (8) items, and each one of them has a value

I am running AV Grisoft 8.0 Free Edition.

Thanks once again for your help,

Sam

This is a strange one.

Lets try this.

What you need to do is use GrooveClean.exe

The procedure is like this.
Exit Groove completely (rightclick the systray icon and click "Exit")
- Make sure there are no Groove processes running (check for GROOVE.EXE
and GrooveMonitor.exe in
the processes tab of Task Manager)
- Open a commandprompt and go to C:\Program Files\MicrosoftOffice\Office12
- type: grooveclean.exe

No restart Groove and hopefully it works.

Hope to hear from you

See ya,

Jeroen

Must say.. I have the same exact issue. Running Groove 07 on Vista. I don't
see the others in my "network" (internet). They always show up as offline and
updates don't happen to workgroups where file and comment/discussion changes
have been made. Groove 07 was working at some point. I'm not sure if it
stopped around the time of the Vista SP1 update or if it was a change to my
AVG virus software or what. I've gone as far as to uninstall Groove from this
machine, but still no luck. I guess my next try is to uninstall AVG
Anti-Virus. I've already checked router and firewall settings. No issues
there.

FYI: My network settings and status are similar to what sam posted. This is
really frustrating since our company works at several separate locations
(mainly home offices) and we are no longer able to use Groove as a reliable
collaboration tool.

Hi Sam,

Information you provided looks as if the setup of your Groove identity
did not complete.
Causes can be multiple : bad Internet connection, antivirus software
interfering, malfunctioning of the Groove Server during the activation
process, ...

What I would suggest is to create a new account and check whether this
works fine (if needed temporarilly disable your antivirus software...)

Best regards,
Jan

After uninstalling AVG Anti-Virus 8.x and doing a "GrooveClean", all seems to
be working now. I'll reinstall AVG and see if the problem returns or not.

Some of my users are having similar issues. One user has a message that he
has ~5 MB of outgoing data. The message has been there for days. All users
are on Groove 3.1, using Windows XP service pack 2. They are all on the same
internal network. We have our own Groove servers also. Here is an excerpt
from one of the e-mails:

We are still not synchronizing. I cannot see others when they are in the
same space as me, and almost no one can see me in a space. Some files are
getting updated, but some are not.

Thanks all for any help.
