Groove Messages Delayed

T

Tom.

Hi Everyone,
My office is using Groove 2007. While some of us are on the Internal part
of the network using Groove through the proxy server, we have VPN users who
are terminated in a VPN and are heavily firewalled. While I can see one of
these people in my contact list, there are times when a message is sent and
the time it takes for the message to arrive at their machine and then for a
reply to get back to me is about 10 minutes.
I have been on the phone with this person and we are co-ordinating the
sending of messages for testing and there seems to be a delay but not all the
time.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Absolutely. The person behind a firewall is probably restricted to a port 80
(HTTP) conection to their Groove Relay for communications beyond the
firewall. If possible, Groove will keep that connection open, but often in
can't. In that case, the Relay cannot contact the Groove application, so
instead, Groove queries the Relay periodically to check for waiting content.
How frequently it queries depends on recent activity.

For some general information on Groove transport types, see this KB article:
