Groove on a file server (need to add remote drives?)

We store all our data on a server, simply within a shared folder.

Data is stored in the following formats:
\\servername\Contracts\Company_Name\Project_A\finance
\\servername\Contracts\Company_Name\Project_A\planning
\\servername\Contracts\Company_Name\Project_A\drawings
(and so on)

Is it possible to create a workspace for project A, which will not only
import to groove but be syncnorised at the same time? I.e if the server file
gets added or groove gets updated that they will eventually sync and match?

My questions really relates to groove server and groove workspace 2010, can
this be achieved?
Im aware this data cannot be added from a client PC, but would it differ if
server was installed?

Groove seems like amazing software, but I dont think id have confidence in
not having any physical data?

Any info/help would be appreciated.

If im honest, I think what im really looking for is more of a centralized
groove system, rather than a distribution system :/

Nigel,
Thanks for your reply, I have a few more questions if you dont mind.

Can I ask how your using your server in the groove environment?
Obviously, when you install groove on a client PC, you cannot normally add
network drives (i.e a drive on the server).

Can I assume that by installing the groove client on your 200x server, you
must create the workspaces ON the server to enable everyone to access the
networked drives?

Lastly, I dont think everyone will grasp the software initially, and will
add files to the existing project folder, is there a way to ensure that when
this happens its automatically added to the groove workspace?
I would assume this could be achieved if this was synchnorised on the
server, but then would someone have to login on the server for it to
synchnorise?

Hope that makes sense?

Adam

Hi Adam1V.

I've had success running a Groove client on a Windows 2003 Server.
(and a Groove 3.1 client on a windows 2000 server)

All worked for me, and allowed me to share directly attached network drivers.
Although I am working with the Sharepoint Workspace 2010 beta at the moment,
I haven't tried it on a server yet, and as far as I know, the server
components for the next release aren't available for testing yet.

An existing Groove Data Bridge (an Office 2007 server) will let you back up
workspaces onto a 64bit file server, but its more of a specialised box really.

Hope that helps,

Nigel
